Muslim Ban: Updates (prior to 7/1/17)

OLDER UPDATES 6/29: The travel ban went into effect. The administration clarified "bona fide" relationships do not include grandparents, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, cousins and fiances. They do allow sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and stepchildren. (Washington Post) Hawaii has filed a court challenge. 6/26: Supreme Court will hear Muslim ban case in the fall. In the meantime, in a 9-0 vote, they have allowed some of the 90-day ban to take effect until then, "for foreign nationals who lack any bona-fide relationship" with the U.S. (CNN). However, "in practical terms... 'the executive order 'may not be enforced against foreign nationals who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the U.S.''" The ban only affects those without a visa, or any connection to the US (New York Times). 6/11: ACT for America's "nationwide" anti-Muslim organized protest "against Sharia law" (?) was attended by under 100 protestors in each of several cities. Protestors in support of Muslims outnumbered them 2+ to 1 (NBC News). ACT boasts of its close ties to Trump; it is on the hate group list of the Southern Poverty Law Center.4/3: CA passes SB84 to prevent local and state authorities from cooperating with ICE in deportation actions. 2/24: Rep. Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) introduced Georgia House Bill 452 to require Georgia to "create and maintain a website listing any unauthorized immigrant currently in Georgia." (See Stop Trump, DACA, Immigrant sections) 2/15: Canadian Muslims denied entry to US after Arabic videos found on phone; were asked illegal religious questions (CBS News) 2/2: Trump plans to revamp counter-extremism program to focus ONLY on Islam, ignoring domestic White Supremacist and other groups who carry out violent attacks within the U.S. (Ainsley, Volz & Cooke, Reuters)
